Getting started with the API

Steps

1. Have a Base account

   Sign up for Base and connect the channels you need, such as WhatsApp.

2. Get API access

   Your admin gives your role the API access permission. Without it, keys are read-only.

3. Make a key

   Give the key a label, such as Order updates, an optional expiry date and a limit per minute. For WhatsApp, pick the number first.

4. Copy it and read the docs

   Copy the key at once: it is the only time the full key is shown. Then open the API docs in the chat console.

Good habits

• Make one key per system, with a clear label, so you can revoke one without breaking the others.
• Set an expiry date for keys used in tests.
• Keep keys out of code that runs in a browser or app.
